What will you be doing?

The role will focus on designing, building, supporting and operating data pipelines and core data platform technologies within our Azure-based analytics and lakehouse environment.

You will work within established engineering patterns to deliver reliable, secure and well-governed data for analytics, Power BI reporting and regulated finance use cases, while also helping to maintain the stability and performance of our data platform services (including Azure Databricks and Azure Synapse).

Your key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Develop, enhance and maintain data pipelines using Azure Databricks (Python, PySpark and SQL).
  • Implement ingestion and transformation patterns across Bronze, Silver and Gold layers, including Delta Lake incremental processing.
  • Support and operate core data platform technologies including Azure Databricks and Azure Synapse Analytics (monitoring performance, stability and capacity).
  • Support configuration and maintenance of Databricks workspaces, clusters and job scheduling; and support Synapse connections and workload reliability.
  • Build Gold-layer datasets designed for Power BI and analytics consumption, applying dimensional modelling principles where appropriate.
  • Investigate and resolve pipeline failures, data quality issues and platform incidents; support controlled reprocessing when required.
  • Develop using source-controlled, repository-driven workflows; contribute to CI/CD pipelines and participate in code reviews.
  • Apply data security and governance standards appropriate to a regulated financial services environment.

What type of person will you need to be?

We are looking for someone who is hands-on, implementation-focused and comfortable supporting both pipelines and platform services. You will have:

  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer delivering production data pipelines.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Azure Databricks, Python, PySpark and SQL.
  • Experience supporting and operating data platform services in Azure.
  • Experience with Delta Lake and incremental data processing and/or CDC patterns.
  • Understanding of medallion architecture (Bronze / Silver / Gold).
  • Experience supporting analytics or reporting platforms such as Power BI.
  • Experience working in environments with strong data security and governance requirements.

It would be great if you also have:

  • Experience supporting Azure Synapse Analytics in a production environment.
  • Experience using Azure Data Factory for orchestration or ingestion.
  • Experience monitoring platform performance and resolving operational issues.
  • Experience working in regulated or financial services environments.
  • Familiarity with dimensional modelling and star schema design.
